Jura in Snow, Lutry. 13.02.2026

This original plein-air oil painting was created in Lutry, Switzerland, on a clear winter day overlooking Lac Léman (Lake Geneva) and the snow-covered Jura mountains. Painted directly outdoors, the work captures the quiet luminosity of winter light reflected across the lake and the distant mountain range.

During the colder months, the landscape around Lutry transforms into a subtle harmony of cool tones, soft reflections and crystalline atmosphere. On this February day, the snowy Jura appeared across the water with remarkable clarity, creating a contrast between the still surface of Lac Léman and the bright winter horizon.

Rather than focusing on dramatic effects, this painting explores the calm presence of winter in the Swiss landscape. The shifting tones of snow, sky and water create a delicate balance of colour and light that can only be observed for a brief moment before changing again.

Painted on location in a single plein-air session, the work belongs to my ongoing series dedicated to Lac Léman, Lutry and the landscapes of the canton of Vaud. Each painting preserves a specific encounter with the atmosphere, season and light of a real place in Switzerland.
