Feast of the Spring Blooming in St-Saphorin. 24.03.2026
This original plein-air oil painting was created in Saint-Saphorin, Switzerland, during the first days of spring in the heart of the Lavaux vineyards overlooking Lac Léman (Lake Geneva). Painted directly on location, the work captures the feeling of seasonal awakening as flowering trees, vineyard landscapes and village life begin to emerge after winter.
Saint-Saphorin is one of the most picturesque wine villages of the Lavaux region, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape known for its terraced vineyards, historic architecture and exceptional views between lake and mountains. Nestled on the steep slopes above Lac Léman, the village seems suspended between sky, water and vines.
On this March day, the arrival of spring transformed the atmosphere of the village. Blossoming trees introduced delicate tones of white and pink into the landscape, while the warm light of the season brought renewed energy to the vineyards and stone streets. The scene carried a sense of celebration, not through an event itself, but through the quiet unfolding of nature after the winter months.
Painted outdoors in a single session, this work focuses on the relationship between seasonal change, light and place. The fleeting colours of early spring, the textures of the village and the surrounding Lavaux landscape became essential elements of the composition.
This painting belongs to my ongoing plein-air series dedicated to Saint-Saphorin, Lavaux and the shores of Lac Léman. Each work preserves a specific encounter with a real landscape, observed directly and translated into paint as it changes through the seasons.
