February Night, Pully Temple. 11.02.2026
This original plein-air oil painting was created in Pully, Switzerland, on a quiet February evening near the historic Pully Temple overlooking Lac Léman (Lake Geneva). Painted directly on location, the work captures the still atmosphere of winter nightfall, where architecture, sky and landscape dissolve into subtle tones of light and shadow.
As darkness settled over the town, the illuminated silhouette of the temple emerged against the deep blue evening sky. The surrounding streets and winter air created a sense of calm suspension, while distant reflections and fading light connected the scene to the broader landscape of the lake and the canton of Vaud.
Rather than describing every architectural detail, this painting focuses on atmosphere and perception. The transition between daylight and night transforms familiar places into spaces of quiet contemplation. The limited winter palette, softened contrasts and luminous evening tones became the central elements of the composition.
Created during a single outdoor painting session, this work belongs to my ongoing plein-air series dedicated to the landscapes, towns and lakeside villages of Western Switzerland. Each painting preserves a real encounter with a specific place, season and moment of light.
