This original plein-air oil painting was created at Lutry Plage, Switzerland, on a cold February day along the shores of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva). Painted directly outdoors, the work captures the atmosphere of winter bathing by the lake, where icy water, pale winter light and the quiet landscape of Lavaux meet in a moment of courage, stillness and renewal.

Lutry Plage is one of the most beloved lakeside places in the region, known for its natural shoreline, open views across Lac Léman and the surrounding Lavaux vineyards. On this February day, the water and air carried the sharp clarity of winter. The contrast between the cold lake and the luminous atmosphere created a feeling of heightened awareness, where every reflection, movement and colour appeared more intense. Rather than depicting an event alone, the painting explores the sensory experience of being present beside Lac Léman during the coldest season of the year.

Winter bathing has become an increasingly visible ritual around Swiss lakes, where immersion in cold water is often associated with resilience, vitality and a direct connection with nature.
