Classic View of Lutry in Spring. 13.03.2026

This original plein-air oil painting was created in Lutry, Switzerland, during the first days of spring overlooking Lac Léman (Lake Geneva). Painted directly on location, the work captures one of the characteristic views of this historic lakeside village, where the water, vineyards and architecture of Lavaux come together in a uniquely Swiss landscape.

Lutry marks the western entrance to the Lavaux vineyard terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape stretching along the northern shores of Lake Geneva. Surrounded by vineyards, medieval streets and mountain views, the village is known for its exceptional relationship between nature, history and daily life. (lutry.ch)

On this March day, the arrival of spring brought softer light and delicate colour transitions across the lake and the village. The reflections of Lac Léman, the awakening vineyards and the clarity of the atmosphere created a scene that felt both timeless and constantly changing. Rather than depicting a landmark alone, the painting seeks to preserve the sensation of standing within the landscape and observing its quiet transformations.

Working outdoors allows each painting to respond directly to real conditions of light, weather and season. The brushwork follows the shifting rhythm of the landscape itself, preserving a fleeting moment before it disappears.

This work belongs to my ongoing plein-air series dedicated to Lutry, Lavaux and the landscapes surrounding Lac Léman. Each painting is created from direct observation and reflects a specific encounter with place, atmosphere and time.
