Café de la Poste, Lutry. 02.03.2026
This original plein-air oil painting was created in Lutry, Switzerland, in front of the historic Café de la Poste, one of the most recognizable gathering places in the old lakeside village overlooking Lac Léman (Lake Geneva). Painted directly on location, the work captures the atmosphere of an early March day, where everyday life, architecture and changing light come together in a quiet moment of observation.
Located in the heart of Lutry near the harbour and the Lavaux vineyards, Café de la Poste is part of the rhythm of the town itself. Its terraces, façades and surrounding streets become a meeting point between local life and the landscape of the lake. On this day, soft spring light moved across the buildings and reflected subtle colours into the scene, creating a balance between urban space and the atmosphere of Lac Léman.
Rather than depicting the café as a simple architectural subject, this painting explores the feeling of presence within the village. The shifting shadows, muted colours and movement of light reveal the character of Lutry as it changes throughout the day and the seasons.
Created during a single plein-air painting session, this work belongs to my ongoing series dedicated to Lutry, Lac Léman and the landscapes of the canton of Vaud. Each painting preserves a specific encounter with a real place, observed directly and translated into paint before the light disappears.
