This original plein-air oil painting was created in Lutry, Switzerland, during a quiet morning in July 2025 on the shores of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva). Painted directly outdoors, the work captures the stillness and clarity that can emerge beside the lake in the early hours of the day, before the movement of boats, visitors and summer activity begins to transform the atmosphere.

Lutry lies at the entrance of the Lavaux region, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape where vineyards descend toward the waters of Lac Léman. The village is known for its historic harbour, lakeside promenades and the constant dialogue between mountain light, water and sky. Throughout the day the appearance of the lake changes continuously, but mornings often reveal its most peaceful and reflective character. (Lutry)

On this July morning, the surface of the lake appeared calm and almost motionless. Soft light spread gradually across the water, while the surrounding landscape emerged through delicate tonal transitions. The reflections of the sky and distant mountains created an atmosphere of balance and quiet concentration, where every detail seemed suspended within the stillness of the moment.

Lac Léman is renowned for its changing colours and atmospheric conditions. In the early morning, the lake often reflects light with remarkable transparency, creating subtle harmonies between water, air and distance. Rather than focusing on a specific landmark, this painting explores the sensation of calm itself. The landscape becomes a space of observation and contemplation, shaped by silence, light and the slow awakening of the day. The work preserves a brief encounter with a moment that existed only for a short time before the rhythms of summer returned to the lakeshore.

Created during a single plein-air painting session, this painting belongs to my ongoing series dedicated to Lutry, Lavaux and the landscapes surrounding Lake Geneva. Each work records a direct experience of season, atmosphere and changing light observed in nature.
