Roc d’Orsay, Villars-sur-Ollon. 05.08.2025
This original plein-air oil painting was created in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland, near the Roc d’Orsay viewpoint overlooking the Alps and the mountain landscapes of the canton of Vaud. Painted directly outdoors on a summer day, the work captures the clarity, light and expansive atmosphere of the Swiss mountains.
Roc d’Orsay is known for its panoramic views across alpine valleys, forests and distant peaks. From this elevation, the landscape appears constantly in motion as clouds drift across the mountains and changing light reshapes the colours of the terrain. On this August day, the atmosphere combined bright summer light with the quiet rhythm of the high-altitude landscape.
Created from direct observation, this plein-air painting focuses on the relationship between space, light and mountain air rather than on precise detail alone. The shifting tones of the alpine environment, the movement of clouds and the changing contours of the landscape became part of the painting process itself.
This work belongs to my ongoing series of plein-air paintings created throughout Switzerland, documenting real places through direct engagement with nature. Each painting preserves a specific encounter with a landscape, season and moment of light.
